Depression Can Be Overcome

Counselling Has Been Proven to Help…

Do you often feel sadness that you don’t understand?

If you are suffering from depression, you may often feel sad or numb. You may feel overcome by an inability to get moving, think clearly or concentrate fully.

If you are depressed, you may have changes in your appetite and spend much time sleeping, feeling hopeless and dejected. You may even feel suicidal at times.

Below is a list of depression symptoms:

If you experience five or more of these symptoms for longer than 2 weeks, or if the symptoms are severe enough to interfere with your daily routine, you likely need the help of a therapist who focuses on depression.

  • A persistent sad, anxious or “empty” mood.
  • Sleeping too little or too much.
  • Reduced appetite and weight loss or increased appetite and weight gain.
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed.
  • Restlessness or irritability.
  • Persistent physical symptoms that don’t respond to treatment.
  • Difficulty concentrating, remembering, or making decisions.
  • Fatigue or loss of energy.

Trauma

Anxiety and Depression Often Come Hand in Hand

Anxiety and depression disorders often operate together in people’s lives. If you are feeling both anxiety and depression, you are probably experiencing the effects of a trauma or difficult event that happened to you either recently or even years ago.

Research shows us that traumatic events trap energy in your nervous system. Without effective trauma counselling this energy and its accompanying symptoms can be difficult to resolve, but they can be treated with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprogramming), one of the most popular and well-researched therapy techniques.

Overcoming Depression, Anxiety and Addiction

I came to therapy completely broken and hopeless. I was suffering from depression, anxiety and chemical dependency. I thought life would always be this way until I began therapy with Gina and learned that I didn't have to be depressed for the rest of my life. With patience and determination I'm learning to overcome my depression and ease my anxiety, while remaining sober for over a year now. Life is gradually getting better. I couldn't have done this without Gina's help.

Benefits of depression therapy with me:

Happy

We all need support sometimes, particularly when we’re feeling depressed, anxious or confused about our life. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) concentrates on what can be done about these problems TODAY. It is an active, directive counselling approach that teaches the skills necessary to cope with problems. It is best used in conjunction with Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing and other methods to resolve underlying trauma.

Depression therapy can work within a short period of time. Together, we can work to resolve your feelings of depression and discover what blocks exist that limit your full potential. Combining CBT, EMDR, mindfulness and other methods, we can focus on these challenges to find new and healthy ways of coping.

Therapy with me will help work out underlying feelings and issues that are causing your depression. During our counselling sessions, I provide you with a safe place to express and heal your feelings. I help my clients develop skills and attitudes that lead to greater happiness and control of depressive moods.

The Release of Traumatic Events through EMDR Therapy

When I first met with Gina for counselling I was suffering from anxiety and depression. I had never been to a therapist or counsellor before and wasn't sure what to expect. Gina was incredibly kind and created a calm environment where I felt like I could finally talk to someone honestly and openly about what I had been feeling. It was so great to engage with someone who listened to me and offered advice in a non-judgmental way.

After a few counselling sessions I began to understand why I was feeling the way I was, and with Gina's help, to find solutions to those problems. I realized that medication would only cure the emotional side effects to my depression and anxiety, and I needed to work through the mental side. Through EMDR therapy we discussed traumatic events in my past and were able to alter my current feelings and memories of those events. I found this to be both incredibly interesting and helpful.

Gina is excellent at what she does and I would absolutely recommend her to anyone who is in need of her counselling services.
