Psychotherapy Services

Initial Psychotherapy Session

During our first session we will work at building trust and rapport – my nature is open, warm and understanding. We will look at your presenting issues as well as your background and together set goals for therapy. We’ll outline a road map for us to get there as efficiently and effectively as possible.

In our psychotherapy relationship I will help you uncover reasons for your behaviour, resolve trauma, depression, anxiety, stop addictions and eating disorders by helping you find positive motivation to change.

Length of Therapy Sessions

Psychotherapy Sessions are normally 50 minutes. An extended 80-minute EMDR therapy session is also available. Initial couples therapy sessions are 80 minutes.

Duration of Therapy

The duration of therapy for individuals and couples varies depending on your situation, including the seriousness of issues being addressed; your needs, wants and goals; as well as the amount of time and effort you put into change outside of therapy hours. In my experience, significant progress can be made in therapy within a short time if you are committed to the process.

Individual Therapy

Individual psychotherapy is ideal if you are struggling with trauma, substance abuse, eating disorders, depression or anxiety. With over 20 years’ experience as a psychotherapist, I can help you heal from all of these issues.

Couples Therapy

If you are experiencing problems in your relationship, I can help you and your partner develop more intimacy and better communication. As your couple’s therapist, I will give you tools to mature your relationship into one that includes two healthy, mutually interdependent adults, rather than getting stuck in a pattern of avoiding conflict or fighting too much. In marriage therapy I will help you make your relationship satisfying and stimulating.

Telephone Psychotherapy

I provide telephone therapy when appropriate. Phone therapy can be beneficial in several situations. For instance:

  • You are not well enough to leave your home.
  • You have done therapy with me in person and have now moved from Vancouver.
  • You have other life commitments that are bargaining for your time.
  • You don’t like traveling to a downtown Vancouver office.
  • You prefer to work with a psychotherapist on the phone.

Insurance Coverage for Psychotherapy

Some extended health care plans cover psychotherapy services if you see a Licensed Marriage, Family and Child Therapist such as myself. If you have an employer and are not sure about coverage for psychotherapy, your human resources department may have information about your health plans.

I would also be happy to assist you with your insurance policy. Some companies will cover my psychotherapy services when they are supervised by a Registered Psychologist. I work with a Psychologist who supervises my therapy.
